Job Description

About the Role

Reporting to the Group Quality & Technical Manager, this role supports customers, suppliers, and internal teams across all fruit categories. You will drive continuous improvement in quality, food safety, and compliance across PFA’s produce supply base, while strengthening supplier capability, customer relationships, and supply chain performance.

Key Responsibilities

Supply Base Performance & Compliance

  • Analyse supplier performance by category, including quality, compliance, supply-to-program, and cost.

  • Identify non-compliant or underperforming suppliers and assess future supply risk.

  • Screen and approve potential suppliers against PFA quality and compliance standards.

  • Ensure compliance through regular grower engagement, on-farm visits, audits, and iAuditor assessments.

  • Build strong working relationships with direct and indirect growers across all categories.

Quality Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in quality system reviews and internal/external audits.

  • Guide growers and suppliers through quality system implementation and certification (HACCP, Freshcare, SQF, HARPS, GlobalG.A.P, SEDEX, Fair Farms).

  • Lead and deliver technical training to growers, QA teams, and operations staff.

  • Support the documentation and improvement of quality processes, procedures, and workflows.

  • Contribute to supply chain improvement projects to enhance efficiency, transparency, and compliance.

Business & Category Development

  • Work with commercial, operations, marketing, and category teams to improve systems and processes.

  • Support category development initiatives, value-adding projects, and ripening protocol compliance.

  • Provide input into reports on the effectiveness of quality and food safety management systems.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce quality defects and compliance risk.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Liaise with customers on technical matters, QIPs, supplier performance, and projects.

  • Proactively manage quality issues, corrective actions, and reporting requirements.

  • Maintain customer and compliance platforms (e.g. SEDEX, Fair Farms, Coles and Woolworths systems).

  • Support NPD and packaging initiatives aligned with customer and business objectives.

Operational Support

  • Assist with inventory control, site security, and IPM-based pest management where required.

  • Work with state-based operations to support correct stock rotation and customer requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualification (highly regarded).

  • Strong knowledge of food safety and quality systems.

  • Experience in fresh produce, horticulture, or FMCG supply chains.

  • Sound understanding of grading, packing, defects, audits, and supplier compliance.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.

Personal Attributes

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Commercially minded, proactive, and solutions focused.

  • Able to work autonomously and collaboratively in a team environment.
